Are you looking for a chenille bedspread, the grill from a '41 Chevy Coupe, an elegant peignoir, wood shutters, a Harley Davidson martini set, stunning orchid plants, old photos for "instant ancestors," a chrome & glass dining set straight out of Miami Vice, a saddle, vintage Avon jewelry still in the original box?

And books - real paper books to take you back to your childhood - Tom Swift & Nancy Drew, Golden books, the 1904 Home Queen Cookbook. Kindles are great but they don't evoke memories like the real thing does. Real vinyl records, too - prized by aficionados as still producing the truest sounds.

You can feel good about reviving the past for more than personal reasons, too. Ralph Waldo Emerson said, "Our admiration of the antique is not admiration of the old, but of the natural." The Tavares Antique Mall fully support the efforts of Antiques are Green, an organization that aims to promote antiques as an alternative form of recycling and conserving natural resources.

In September 2010 the antiques trade commissioned a carbon footprint analysis of an antique chest of drawers against its modern equivalent - the results speak for themselves; the new item had a carbon footprint 16 times higher than the antique.
